The construction industry is waking up to the fact that Mental health is just as important as physical health.  Whilst this is something we need to be addressing every day, Mental Health Awareness Week (coming up on 15th May), gives us a further opportunity to raise awareness of how this is impacting our construction workforce.

This year’s theme for Mental Health Awareness Week is anxiety. A recent study found that construction workers experience high levels of anxiety, with almost half of the workers surveyed reporting symptoms of anxiety and depression. This raises the question, are more workers experiencing anxiety, or are we doing better with recognising symptoms and talking about it?  We’d love to know your thoughts.

Are we doing enough to tackle the work related issues – take a look at our previous blog on this topic: https://constructionhealth.co.uk/stress-and-mental-health-in-construction-are-you-doing-enough/

It’s important to take steps to address mental health issues in the construction industry. There are lots of resources available from organisations like the Mental Health Foundation (https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/our-work/public-engagement/mental-health-awareness-week) to help raise awareness and provide support.

As a Health, Hygiene and Wellbeing consultancy dedicated to the construction industry, we have put together a construction-specific information pack and some suggested resources to share with your construction teams. To download the pack, click here subscribepage.io/construction-health-mental-health-awareness and fill in your details, you will then be sent a download link.

Watch my below video for more information on the free information pack and who you could use of it.

Our goal is to help construction workers and employers understand the impact of mental health on the industry and provide practical advice and resources to address these issues.

We will be doing more of these packs, so please let us know if you have any feedback. We want to make sure that the resources we provide are useful and effective. Please share your thoughts with us and leave a review here: https://g.page/r/CYXKEcU_1qSkEB0/review.

Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health in the construction industry and create a safer, healthier and happier work environment for all.
