Health and Wellbeing support with CLC roadmap
The Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has been responsible for setting standards for the industry during the COVID19 pandemic. Now the CLC taskforce has laid out proposals for their “Roadmap to Recovery: An Industry Recovery Plan for the UK Construction Sector available here.
It falls into three sub-headings: Restart, Reset, Reinvent.
Restart: increasing output, maximising employment and minimising disruption (0-3 months)
Reset: driving demand, increasing productivity and strengthening capability in the supply chain (3-12 months)
Reinvent: transforming the industry, delivering better value, collaboration and partnership (12-24 months).
Looking after the health and wellbeing of the construction workforce is recognised as a crucial part of the roadmap which is really exciting to see. We thought it would be helpful to add some links and resources that can support the industry during each phase. See our table below and we’d love to add to it if you have any other things that you think are worth sharing!
Construction-related ill health, including respiratory conditions, hand−arm vibration syndrome, musculoskeletal disorders and stress-related issues, has enormous personal and financial cost. Following research on major construction projects, a range of interventions are proposed in this paper, illustrated by examples from the Thames Tideway Tunnel project in London, UK. A consistent approach to occupational health management and health surveillance is needed across construction, with a commitment to better training and improved portability of occupational health data. Major projects are critical to raising health management standards, but good practices need to be universally adopted in small- to medium-sized enterprises to achieve lasting improvement.
